My Interview with Author Sahara Foley

When did you first realize you wanted to become a Writer/author?

I never knew I was going to be a writer.  I didn’t have the proverbial stories running wild in my mind.  NO, it was my late husband who was the writer, but he could never get any of his stories published.  This was back in the late 1980’s.  So when he passed away on Christmas 2012, I was totally lost, and remembered his outlines sitting in dusty, old boxes.  So, I broke them out, and that’s what started my writing career.

Where do you get your ideas for your book?

Right now, I’m working on Bob’s outlines, but I have written two short stories that sprang from my own imagination.  I think Bob is now my muse.

What kind of things do you enjoy when not writing?

Well, Bob and I used to go camping and fishing, a lot.  I just recently got back into that with my family.  I also love gardening, and computer games.

How many books have you written? Which is your favorite?

I published 4 books and 6 short stories.  The Secret of Excalibur, which Bob had named Arthur’s Story, was always my favorite one.  Arthur Merlin is so much like Bob.  And Ruth and Daisy are me.

Do you have any suggestions to help others who have a passion for writing?

Get an author platform set-up, network with fellow authors, and just remember, you’re not going to make it big.  Some writers do but they spend hours and money getting a reader base.

What do you think makes a great story?

It has to be well-written, edited, with characters that draw you in and carry you along with them on their journey.  I read all genres, and these rules apply to whatever book I read.

Which Writer/Authors inspire you?

There are a few.  All indie authors.  Alaric Longward, Doug Lamoreax, and J. N. Northup.

What are you working on at the moment?(optional)

The 3rd book in the Excalibur Saga called Karrin: Warrior Child.  I might break it out into two books.

What genre are your books?

They range from horror, to sci-fi action adventures.

What drew you to the genre you write?

I’ve always loved fantasy, sci-fi, and paranormal books.  When I wrote my short story Silent Night, I just had to put it in a sci-fi background.  LOL.

Which Actor/Actress would you like to see portraying the lead character from your most recent book?(any book you like)

This is something I never think about.  I doubt my books will ever be a movie, so I’d rather the reader sees in their own minds what the characters will look like.

Do you write full-time or part-time?

Part-time.  I have a full-time job.

What is the hardest thing about writing?

It’s exhausting, and some days the words just don’t want to flow right.  But we slug away.  Then, of course, there’s all the editing afterwards.

Any tips on how to get through the dreaded Writer’s block?

I get my mind off the story by playing my computer games.

Do you read much, and if so who are your favorite Authors or genres?

Since I started publishing, I’ve read mainly indie authors.  But, since I’m trying to get my next book done, I haven’t even finished reading a book yet this year.  But, my favorite authors and genres will always be fantasy, sci-fi mixed with horror.  I love Stephen King, Anne McCaffrey, Terry Books, and Dean Koontz.

Is there anything else you would like to add that I haven’t included?

For all the new indie authors, please make sure you pay for a proper editor and book cover designer.  Indie authors have such a bad name because of all the trash that’s being published.  Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.

How can Readers discovery more about you and your work?(please provide proper links)
